Equipping young actors in the North East with the skills and tools they need to thrive in their auditions.

Breaking In is run by Sol Taibi, a recent graduate from Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and Rosie Bowden, a theatre maker in the North East. Sol has experience running drama school audition training courses in school establishments across the UK but feels there is a huge lack for opportunities like this in the North East of England.
We want to make sure the myths of drama school auditions are busted, and to do this in a financially accessible way so that every person, regardless of their financial circumstances, gets a chance to take part. We ask that participants pay a price reflective of their household income.
Are you a budding actor based in the North East with dreams of going to drama school? Perhaps you feel worried about the process and want to feel as ready as possible stepping into those audition rooms.
If so, Breaking In is for you!
In order to apply for Breaking In courses, you will need to:
Be based in Northumberland, Tyne and Wear, County Durham, Redcar and Cleveland or Middlesborough.
Aged 15+ from the 1st September 2026
Not currently hold a degree in the UK
Intend to apply for a full time BA Hons Acting degree or other creative degree in the future

Bi-weekly Thursday sessions at Alphabetti Theatre
Drama School audition prep - led by Sol Taibi
These sessions will continue our work with aspiring actors in the North East preparing for drama school auditions.
Participants will work with experienced theatre practitioners in all elements of theatre to gain a better grasp of the tools they need for a future at drama school.
Sessions will cover:
Monologue Surgery and first applications prep
Classical text monologue surgery
Self tape applications and how to get the most out of your tapes.
Recall and Final round prep (improv and period dance)
Interview techniques and being yourself in the room
Working with the blank texts / Sight reading
What will happen when you get to drama school and how to get the most out if it
